Emeco
A visual identity and branding system for Emeco – the aluminium chair company.
Whilst much has changed since 1944 (the year Emeco was founded), some things remain the same. Emeco still make their furniture in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and remain committed to the principles they inherited from their founders: ‘Begin with what’s left over, turn it into what will last.’
We were tasked with refreshing their identity, whilst still exemplifying their core values: purpose, handcraft, longevity, sustainability, simplicity and heritage. This led to an extensive brand system, updating their typographic family, colour palette, packaging templates and more.

Logo
Our ‘new’ logo harks back to the original hand-drawn 1944 Emeco sign, which has greeted visitors to their factory in Hanover, PA, for over 80 years. Emeco had subtly trialled it out at their Jasper Morrison-curated anniversary show at the Milan Triennale in 2024, so we confidently took to their extensive archives, and with the help of type designer Paul Barnes, modernised and remastered the wordmark – making it fit for purpose for the 21st century.
Grid
All Emeco marketing assets follow a new grid structure, based on the back bars of the 1006 Navy Chair. This creates a flexible three-column grid, with an additional central divide.
Colour
The colour palette is tied closely to Emeco’s factory, where neutral grays dominate production spaces, with yellow industrial signage adding functional colour.
Factory Yellow, a colour already apparent throughout the Hanover factory, provides a functional highlight, to be used with discretion. It offers a stark contrast where needed for wayfinding, web banners, packaging stickers and product literature.
