Future Impact 3: Design Nation

Celebrating Singapore design past, present and future for the nation’s 60th anniversary.

The nation of Singapore is a modern day marvel. In just sixty years, the ‘Little Red Dot’ transformed from a small fishing village into a global economic powerhouse.

As it looks towards the next 60 years, Singapore is focused on design and the creative industries as a key source of future economic growth.

In 2022, the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), a subsidiary of the Singapore Economic Development Board, appointed TC & Friends with the task of showcasing Singapore design on the global stage.

Our solution was to curate, produce and deliver an annual showcase called ‘Future Impact’ championing the best in Singapore design at Milan Design Week and Singapore Design Week. Each exhibition was curated by our founder and creative director Tony Chambers in collaboration with Maria Cristina Didero. Hunn Wai joined as co-curator for this special 2025 edition of Future Impact 3: DESIGN NATION celebrating Singapore’s 60th anniversary year.

Chiesa di San Bernardino alle Monache (1925)

For Future Impact 3: Design Nation, we scouted and selected the 450-year old Renaissance-era church of San Bernardino alle Monache as the venue. Previously unused at Milan Design Week, the church was an ideal setting for this narrative-rich journey into the past, present and future of Singapore design.

For this edition’s visual identity, we selected a ‘Vibrant Emerald Green’ colour scheme to the exhibition design assets and collateral as a 'New Singapore Hue' to bring a modern Singaporean touch.

With this being the third year of Future Impact, we’re confident that our efforts have amplified and cemented Singapore’s reputation globally as a nation by design.

We selected some of Singapore’s most imaginative designers, emerging and established, who produced new works in line with the showcase’s themes of Design Futures (design solutions for sustainability and cutting-edge technology) and Design Impact (design solutions that address pressing global challenges).

This year’s participants included eight contemporary leading lights of Singapore design: Claudia Poh (Werable), FARM, Vouse and Changi General Hospital, Ng Sze Kiat (Bewilder), Olivia Lee, Randy Yeo (Practice Theory), Sacha Leong (Nice Projects), Supermama and Wei Xiang.

In addition, this special anniversary showcase also included six top young emerging design talents from Singapore: Kalinda Chen, Wong Eng Geng, Namjot Kaur, Nazurah Rohayat, Eian Siew and CJ Tan. Their new perspectives brought a fresh creative flair to the showcase, with their future-focused products providing a bright glimpse of the country’s creative future.

For the showcase visuals, we again worked closely with Mark Cocksedge, the world-class portrait and interiors photographer. Together with Mark, we developed an elegant visual language for the project through photography and art direction, which achieved great press coverage and travelled well on social media.
