Future Impact 2

Showcasing Singapore on the global design stage.

Singapore is a modern day marvel. In just sixty years, the ‘Little Red Dot’ has transformed from a small fishing village on the edge of Malaysia into a global economic powerhouse.

As it looks towards the next 60 years, Singapore is focused design and the creative industries generating future economic growth.

In 2022, the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), a subsidiary of the Singapore Economic Development Board, appointed TC & Friends with the task of showcasing Singapore design on the global stage.

Our solution was to curate, produce and deliver an annual showcase called ‘Future Impact’ championing the best and latest in Singapore design. With two exhibitions per year at Milan Design Week and Singapore Design Week, Future Impact 2 was curated by our founder and creative director Tony Chambers and Italian curator Maria Cristina Didero.

Architectural drawing of La Rotonda del Pellegrini by Pelligrino Tibaldi (1527–1596)

For the second edition of Future Impact, we sourced a never-before-used venue at Milan Design Week. The remarkable Renaissance-era La Rotonda del Pellegrini, located just a stone’s throw from the Duomo, was the ideal mixture of proximity and intrigue given its hidden gem status.

Participants of Future Impact 2 included experienced luminaries of Singapore design: Genevieve Ang, Christian+Jade, David Lee, Tiffany Loy, Faezah Shaharuddin, Gabriel Tan and Zavier Wong.

For the second edition of Future Impact, we worked closely with Mark Cocksedge, a world-class portrait and interiors photographer, to ensure the showcase enjoyed a distinct visual aesthetic. This approach landed well in the press and on social media and also provided a valuable record and elegant visual language for the project.

The colour Pietra Serena was chosen for the exhibition collateral, as this was sympathetic to the Renaissance architecture. This colour combined with a soft pink hue for the already established gradient, made a subtle background for the already bold Future Impact 2 logo.

Exhibition takeaway

Entryway to the Rotunda

The exhibition design by Milan-based Design Studio, DWA, used a circular stage that was sympathetic to the building, and reinforced the sustainability and circularity aspects of the showcase as well as the democratic placement of each designer.

Future Impact 2 achieved its goals with each designer successfully demonstrating their talents to a global audience while highlighting Singapore as a dynamic hub for design excellence, innovation and future-thinking.
