Rubelli

Repositioning the historic Venetian textile company for a contemporary audience

Rubelli, the fifth-generation Venetian textile house, enlisted TC & Friends to reposition its historic brand. Internationally renowned for its commitment to quality, the family business wanted guidance on how to reach contemporary markets.

After months of research and discussion, TC & Friends, along with writer and design critic Hugo Macdonald, put together a comprehensive discovery presentation focusing on diagnosis, narrative, strategy and creative production.

The findings and proposals were then consolidated into an archival brand book to serve as a testament and guide for the new brand direction.

One of the key proposals was the placement of a creative director role within Rubelli. TC & Friends drew up a shortlist of candidates, eventually selecting the Italian design studio Formafantasma to steer the brand forward.

Since their appointment, Formafantasma have shaped new collections, retail spaces and partnerships for Rubelli. They also oversaw the relaunch of Rubelli’s sister brand, Kieffer, renowned for their experimental line of fabrics and natural fibres.

Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Formafantasma discuss their appointment as Creative Directors of Rubelli, and the launch of Kieffer ‘Untitled’.
