Where were we?
Travel often feeds our best ideas, and we have a big appetite
Did you guess the locations of some of the team’s recent adventures? Clockwise from top left: New York, Shanghai, South Tyrol, Milan, Jamaica, Oslo.
New York
On a short trip to the Big Apple, Tony Chambers made a dash to see the newest skyscraper on the block (270 Park Avenue to be precise) – JPMorganChase’s gargantuan global HQ designed by Foster + Partners. Set to accommodate 10,000 employees and an unparalleled range of venues and leisure activities, it has been described as a ‘city within a city’.
Shanghai
On a work trip to China, Tony found time to visit Prada Rong Zhai, the restored historic mansion and art venue inaugurated by the Prada Group in 2017. After taking in the splendid ‘Storyboards’ exhibition it felt appropriate to sample its recently opened restaurant Mi Shang, designed in collaboration with cinematic arthouse legend Wong Kar-wai. By chance, Tony was joined at the bar by executive chef Riccardo la Pena who explained the unique fusion of Italian and Chinese culinary traditions.
South Tyrol
At Meran 2000’s new Rotwand restaurant, Georgia Dehn found pure South Tyrolean soul. Designed by Harry Thaler for Hotel Miramonti, the space perfectly blends that understated Italian flair with alpine beauty.
Milan
Inspired by the ‘Oscar Niemeyer in Italia’ exhibition at ETEL Milano, Callum Majekodunmi-O’Hara pulled off a sneaky peek inside the Palazzo Mondadori in Milan, home of the renowned Mondadori publishing house. Designed by Niemeyer and opened in 1975, the offices have just been renovated by Carlo Ratti Associati. Callum also caught an Inter Milan win at the legendary San Siro. Oracabessa, Jamaica
Zulum Elumogo managed to capture this glorious sunset overlooking James Bond Beach, not far from Ian Fleming’s Goldeneye Estate. Paradise.
Oslo
After climbing the roof of Snøhetta’s iconic Oslo Opera House, Fred Cochran sat down for a well earned drink at bar and distillery Himkok, founded by Erk Potur in 2015. Their new ‘Design by Sipping’ menu, in collaboration with Studio Sløyd, reimagines Himkok’s 13-serve menu into a series of furniture and objects, ‘from the obvious to the symbolic’.
